How often do industrial fires happen?

July 1, 2022 By admin Leave a Comment

Why are industrial fires are hazardous?

Although they are fairly common and can happen anywhere, they are particularly harmful because they involve flammable liquids, such as butane, methane or propane. They also require a lot of electricity to extinguish the fire.

“If there’s a fire, that requires the electricity to run the large water pump,” said Jani. “That electricity is going to be consumed by the fire.”

Companies are required to maintain at least one extinguisher in the building, but they are not required to store them.

How often do industrial fires happen?

Many industrial fires have no witnesses or employees to inform about the incident.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour said they receive around eight to 10 industrial fires each year.

There is no way of knowing how many of those will have something to do with chemicals or how many will have to do with manufacturing.
